Some criminals have poisoned fishes worth around Tk 15 lakh in waterbody of Sreenathpur-Chapatala areas under Moheshpur upazila on Sunday mid-night, fishermen alleged .
Moheshpur upazila Sreenathpur Fishery Association President Ashraf Ali and General Secretary Abu Taleb told that six months back they took lease of two hundred bighas waterbody from upazila administration for three years at Tk 4 lakh 27 thousand per year. They found floating fishes on the waterbody and informed police and Fishery office in Moheshpur upazila.
52 members of the Fishery Association released fishes of Tk 10 lakh in the waterbody. At the time another Isamoti Fishery Association President Dr Momin Ahmed tried to take lease of the waterbody. Failing to have the oppertunity, he along with his associates got mad and poured poison in the waterbody on Sunday midnight.
Variety of fishes like rui, katla,mrigel and silvercup died. More fishes might be died, they guessed. They have submitted a written allegation with Moheshpur police station. They will file a case with Moheshpur police station against the involved ones, they added.
Isamoti Fishery Association President Dr Momin said, a few months back
District administration cancelled the registration of Sreenathpur waterbody. So they themselves poured poison in the waterbody for sale and trying to lay the blame upon me.
Affected fisherman Solaiman Hossain said, Dr Momin is an influential man in the area. He along with police have snatched away our fishing nets on Saturday. Again he has poisoned the fishes to death on Sunday night, he alleged.
Moheshpur Upazila Fishery Officer Jaiedur Rasul (01716-102450) could not be contacted after several attempta though his mobile rang several times.
Officer- in -charge (OC) Liakot Hossain of Moheshpur police station said, the fishermen of sreenathpur fishery association have informed us verbally.
