The High Court on Wednesday opined that the historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should be included in the textbook and it should be heard by the new generation.
The High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the opinion during holding the hearing on a writ petition filed seeking court’s declaration on the March 7 as the ‘National Historic Day’.

The court verbally ordered the state counsel to inform the court by next Tuesday (11 February) what were the government’s initiatives centering the Suhrawardy Udyan, the place of 7th March Speech and about the establishments there.
During the hearing, the Presiding judge of the bench FRM Nazmul Ahasan said that the March 7 speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should be heard everywhere and it should be included in the textbook.
“The new generation doesn’t know 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. So, it should be heard by the new generation,” added the presiding judge.
At this stage, the Second Judge of the bench KM Kamrul Kader also expressed his anger as the ‘Shishu Park’ has not yet been removed from the Suhrawardy Udyan, from where Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave his 7th March Speech.
He said, “This is unfortunate. A pro-liberation war party has been in power for so many years, but how the ‘Shishu Park’ still stays there. The ‘Shishu Park’ was established to destroy the memory of Bangabandhu.”
Advocate Bashir Ahmed appeared in the court on behalf of the writ petition while deputy Attorney General Saiful Islam stood for the state.
Saiful Islam later said, “The court said that since the 7th March Speech is the part of our Constitution, it should be heard to the students of the all educational institutions across the country. And it should be included in the textbook.”
Following a writ petition, another High Court bench on November 20, 2017, issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why they should not be directed to declare 7th March as the ‘National Historic Day’ as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave historical speech on that day.
In the rule, the court also asked the authorities concerned of the government to show cause as to why they should not be ordered to reconstruct the stage and a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivering speech with waving finger from Suhrawardy Udyan where the historical speech was delivered.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed, former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), filed the petition. The petition came to the cause-list of the High Court bench yesterday.
The lawyer filed the petition after the UNESCO recognized the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu as a world documentary heritage.
