A private university student was stabbed to death in the city’s Badda area on Monday following a scuffle over betting on the ongoing fifth addition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), police suspect.
The deceased identified as Nasim Ahmed, 23, was a third year student of Bachelor of Business dministration (BBA) faculty of Manarat University, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He said that Nasim engaged in a scuffle with one Ramjan yesterday over betting on BPL currently going on in Sylhet.
Nasim might have stabbed by one Ramjan centering conflict near Post Office of Moddhya Badda around 9:30am, the DC said.
Nasim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Doctors declared him dead one hour later, the police official said.
The victim’s father Saif Uddin said that an unidentified youth stabbed Nasim and fled the spot. Nasim was rescued and taken to DMCH where he succumbed to injuries at the DMCH at about 10:30 am.
The deceased’s brother Fahim suspected that Nasim engaged in a scuffle with one Ramjan yesterday he might have stabbed his brother as a sequel to the conflict.
Badda Police Station OC Kazi Wazed Ali said that we are investigating the incident.
We are trying to arrest the killer, he added.
