A man died inhaling fume as a fire broke out at a multi-storey building in the city’s Purana Paltan area early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Anwar, 42.
Ataur Rahman, duty officer of the Fire Service control room, said the fire broke out at the office room of a private firm on the third floor of 10-storey ‘Swadesh Tower’ building around 5:20 am and spread soon.
On information, six firefighting units rushed in and doused the flame after one and a half hours of frantic efforts.
The fire service men rescued four staff of the private firm. Later they were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Anwar dead.
Sources at the hospital said Anwar died of suffocation due to the fire.
