UNB, Jhenidah :
An accused of two drug cases allegedly committed suicide in police custody at Shailkupa Police Station on Friday noon.
The deceased was identified as Kajal Mandal, 28, son of Julhas Mandal, a resident of the Rajapur village of Kushtia district. He is an accused of two drug cases filed with Islamic University Police Station and the Shailkupa Police Station.
Earlier, being tipped off, a team of Shailkupa Police
Station arrested him along with 20 small packets of hemp from Bhatai Bazar area of the upazila on Thursday night. The arrested tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from the roof of a bathroom at the police station with his lungi around 10am on Friday.
No sooner had he hung himself from the roof, the policemen sensed the suicide attempt and rescued him in a critical condition, said Muhibul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Later, he was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around noon.
