Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Wednesday accused the government of not allowing relatives, political colleagues and lawyers to meet the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in jail for last 11 days.
“Relatives of Khaleda met her last in jail on June 30. Thereafter, Khaleda Zia did not see anyone to meet her there. We fear whether any conspiracy has been hatched to ‘eliminate’ Khaleda from the world,” said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a press briefing at BNP central office in the city.
It is nothing but violation of the Constitutional and human rights.
Mirza Fakhrul added that the jail authorities avoided the matter when asked.
“Whether any one of her relatives sought permission to meet her, the jail super replied to contact with IG (prison). On the other hand, IG prison referred to the Minister who said, “It is not possible for him to do anything without the consent of ‘the number one’. It is really unbelievable,” the BNP leader said. He said, “If this is the situation, then they need to go to the head of the government for visiting the prisoner. We cannot understand what does the government want?”
BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, central leader Salahuddin Ahmed, Abdus Salam Azad and Mir Sharfat Ali Sapu, among others, were present.
