Police arrested a man for chopping off the hand of an imam in Barisal’s Babuganj upazila.
Bablu was arrested on Friday night a few hours after he attacked Yaqub Ali, the imam of Islampur Jame Masjid in the area, said police.
“He said that it’s not permissible to pray behind this imam. He attacked the man when he refused to let Bablu stay in the mosque,” said Babuganj Police OC Mahbubur Rahman.
Quoting witnesses, the police officer said that Bablu attacked Yaqub with a sharp weapon, which immediately cut off three of his right fingers.
Moreover, his left wrist has also been nearly cut off, he said.
Later, Yaqub was admitted to Barisal Medical College Hospital where doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
