Myanmar returns 5 abducted fishermen

Five fishermen were returned on Saturday hours after picking up by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) from Naf River near Hoaikong Unchiprang Zimmongkhali area in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar district.
They are Azizullah, Yaar Mohammad, Shah Alam, Md Rafiq Petan Ali from Kanchanpara area of Hoaikong Union in Teknaf upazila.
Another Bangladeshi fisherman,
Mohammad Islam, 25, son of Fakir Mohammad, was injured in BGP firing during the incident. He has been admitted into MSF Holland Hospital, said official of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Lt Colonel SM Ariful Islam, Captain BGB’s Teknaf-2, said, “The Naf River is prohibited for fishing. The fishermen broke the prohibition.”
The Myanmar authorities returned the abducted fishermen in the evening after a discussion over the issue, the BGB official said.
However, we have sent a letter protesting the firing, he added.
According to the families of the victims, the fishermen went fishing at Zimmongkhali of Naf River on Saturday morning. At one stage, they came under BGP firing. They (BGP) came in a trawler and picked up five of them.
