A long queue of vehicles were seen at Rajbari’s Daulatdia and Madaripur’s Shimulia- Banglabazar ghat from early Friday as people were returning to the capital after celebrated Eid-ul-Azha, ignoring the strict restriction imposed by the government starting from Friday.
Commuters are starting returning the capital from thier respective villages, causing the gathering at the ghat.
On the other hand, launches have transported over capacity passengers watching the country’s mad rush people.
Daulatdia ghat sources said around two hundred long-route and goods-laden vehicles were stuck on the ferry from Thursday night.
Meanwhile, many people were seen gathered at ferries which left Manikganj’s Paturia ghat. Their main aim to reach home before the strict lockdown. In addition, about 15 ferries are on services at Paturia-Daulatdia route, while 19 ferries are on Shimulia-Banglabazar route. When asked why they were going during the lockdown, many passengers said they left the house for urgent work and would not have gone out otherwise.
Yasmin, returning from Meherpur said that she started for Dhaka with her two children at 10pm yesterday (Thursday) and reached the Daulatdia ghat at midnight. Even after waiting the entire night, they could not get on the ferry.
Most of the passengers from different transports had to get down from the vehicles before entering the city due to the suspension of public transports. Meanwhile, those returning to Dhaka from southern districts were seen entering Dhaka on foot through different entry points of the city like Sadar Ghat, Babubazar Bridge and Postogola Bridge.
The reporter visited Sadarghat and Farmgate, among other areas, in the city saw and commuters returning from Sadarghat Launch Terminal on foot with no available transport in sight this morning.
Kabir Hossain, a passenger from Bhola district reached Sdarghat area at 6.10 am with his wife and 30 months’ son said that he thought he would get any transport to reach his destination Gazipur as ‘strict lockdown’ will effective from 10-11 am.
He said, there is no vehicle Even law enforcers do not allow any rickshaw.
