Maiden meeting of JS body on Fisheries and Livestock held

The maiden meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fisheries and Livestock Ministry was held on Thursday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Chairman of the committee Dhirendra Devnath Shambhu presided over the meeting.
The meeting had an elaborate discussion about activities and progress of various projects of the ministry and its sub-ordinate organizations, research institutes and academies.
The meeting was informed that according to a statistic report of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Bangladesh was ranked 5th in producing aquaculture production and 3rd in producing fish from inland water bodies. Also, in fiscal 2017-18, a total of 42.77 lakh metric tonnes of fish was produced, of which 5.17 lakh metric tonnes was Hilsha. It was also informed that Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute has invented 60 latest technologies to increase fish reproduction, improve species and fish culture.
Other members of the committee-State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md. Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, Mohammad Shahid Islam, Mohammad Shahidul Islam (Bokul), Choto Monir, Nazma Aktar, Shamima Aktar Khanam and Kaniz Fatema attended the meeting.
Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry and high officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at the meeting.
