World Meteorological Day observed

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Thursday observed the World Meteorological Day in a befitting manner through different events.
Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Akhter Hussain Bhuiya inaugurated the Meteorological Day inaugurated the celebration function as chief guest at BMD Headquarters in the city’s Agargaon area, said an ISPR press release.
The daylong programmes included an exhibition of meteorological instruments, screening a documentary film on related issues at the headquarters for the public and a technical session conducted by the BMD Officers’ Association.
Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television broadcast special discussion programmes separately putting importance on significance of the day, the release said.
Moreover, the operational units and radar stations of Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar, Khepupara, Rangpur and Moulvibazar remained open for the public.
The release also said the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its 191 member states and territories, including Bangladesh, observed the day commemorating the emergence of WMO as a specialized agency of the United Nations.
