Lord Daben of United Kingdom, Advisor, British Associated Foods called on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter’s office on Tuesday.
Director of the DU Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, Founder Director of the Institute and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, Advisor of Primark Crisis Management Unit (PCMU) of the same Institute Javier Chercoles Blazquez and Katharine Kirk, lecturer of the Institute Abul Kalam Azad were present on the occasion, says a press release.
They discussed about the major areas of climate change, disaster management and vulnerability; women and children’s vulnerability; poverty and vulnerability of women and children etc. They talked about recent disasters such as Rana Plaza incident, flood, cyclone and recent fire observed in garments factories.
Lord Daben expressed his satisfaction for establishing a new Institute working on climate change, disaster and vulnerability issues. He assured the Vice-Chancellor of further possible assistance to develop the research projects on disaster management and vulnerabilities through collaborative agreement. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the guest for his assistance in the academic development of the university.
