The Cabinet on Monday approved the proposed list of holidays for the 2020 calendar year with 14 general holidays and eight more by the executive order of the government.
The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at the Prime Minister’s Office with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters at the Secretariat after the
meeting Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the 14 general holidays will include seven weekly holidays – five Fridays and two Saturdays.
Apart from these 22 days of public holidays, Shafiul Alam said, there will also be five optional holidays for Muslims and Buddhists, eight optional holidays for Hindu and Christian communities, and two optional holidays for small ethic groups of Chattogram Hill Tracts area of the country
