One killed in Nilphamari election violence

A man was killed and four others were injured in Sunday’s municipality election violence.
Fifth phase elections to 29 municipalities under 20 districts ended at 4pm with some incidents of violence, which began at 8am with a peaceful manner.
In Nilphamari, Chhotan, 40, a supporter of councillor candidate Nazrul Islam Royel, was killed and two others were injured during a clash in Syedpur upazila.
The incident occurred outside of Saidpur Women’s College polling centre.
A clash happened between two councillor candidates on Sunday noon that left Chhotan dead.
In Mymensingh, three councillor candidates and a voter were detained from Nandail municipality on charge of creating chaos inside Shahid Smrity Adarsha Degree college centre.
The detainees are councillor candidates Khairul Islam Manik, Abdul Khaleq and
Rafiqul Alam Farruq and voter Mohammad Arzu.
In Jhenidah, two people were injured during a chase and counter-chase between the supporters of two councillor candidates in Kaliganj municipality while the voting was on.
Later, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members brought the situation under control.
