Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to be here in an official visit in March at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Though there has been no announcement yet, officials in Dhaka and Colombo have already started preparations for the first visit of Sirisena to
Bangladesh since he was elected Sri Lankan President, said an official.
He, however, visited to Bangladesh in 2013 and 2014 in the capacity of Health Minister of Sri Lanka.
Sirisena’s predecessor Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Bangladesh in April 2011.
Both sides are working to find a mutual convenient date for the visit which might see the signing of several deals to further promote ties between the two South Asian countries.
