Language veteran Yusuf Hassan passes away

Language movement veteran Dr. Syed Yusuf Hassan died of old-age complications at a city hospital in the early hours of Saturday. He was 90.
Dr Yusuf left behind wife, a son, a daughter and a host of friends, relatives and well wishers to mourn his death.
He was recipient of prestigious “Bangla Academy Award” for his outstanding contribution during the language movement and he was arrested on February 21 in 1952 for his speech claiming Bangla should be made the mother tongue of Pakistan.
He was one of the founder members of NAP (Muzzafar) and was president of Aligarh University Old Boys Association in Dhaka at the time of death.
He was laid to eternal rest at Mohammadpur graveyard after Zohr prayers.
