Language museum demanded at birth place of Abdul Latif

Opening a language museum at the birth place of Abdul Latif, the first tuner of language anthem, mass musician and lyricist, demanded by the locals.
Due to lack of study and practice, Abdul Latif remained unfamiliar at his native village Raipasha under Raipasha-Karapur Union of Sadar upazila under Barisal district.
Discussants and participants of a programme organised for the first time at the native village of Abdul Latif by ‘Abdul Latif Smriti Sangsad’ of Barisal on Monday last, raised the demand.
Locals said due to this programme they became aware for the first time that they were the residents of the same native village of great musician Abdul Latif.
Abdul Latif was born at Raipasha village in Barisal Sadar as fourth out of six children of Aminuddin Haoladar and Azimunnesa couple in 1927.
Matriculating from Raipahsha High School, he went to Kolkata for higher education and started singing for the Congress Literature Group.
After division of the sub-continent, Latif moved to Dhaka from Kolkata in July 1948 and joined Radio Pakistan as a staff artiste.
In 1953, first Latif composed the tune of the poem Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano as a song, written by Abdul Gaffar Choudhury as a poem which is later re-composed to the current form by Altaf Mahmud.
Besides, he wrote songs like Ora amar mukher bhaha kaira nitey chae, Ami dam diye kinechi Bangla, Shona Shona Shona Lokey Boley Shona and other popular mass songs, bhatiyali, Sufi songs etc.
His songs also used widely during liberation war of Bangladesh.
Latif was a government officer in various capacities at Radio Bangladesh from 1974 to 1993.
His publications include Duare Aishachhe Palki from Bangladesh Folklore Parishad, Bhashar Gaan, and Desher Gaan from Bangla Academy and Dilrobab from Islamic Foundation.
He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1979 and Independence Day Award in 2002 by the Government of Bangladesh.
This great musician passes away on February 26, 2005 and laid to eternal rest at martyred intellectual’s graveyard in Dhaka.
Saidur Rahman, nephew of Abdul Latif, informed that Abdul Latif got married with Nazma Begum, younger sister of renowned artist Potua Kamrul Hasan, Latif-Nazma couple has four children i.e 2 sons and two daughters named as Sirajus Salekin and Shamsul Arefin, Saema Latif Mala, Saera Latif Kutu.
However, local people even relatives yet not aware about the life and achievements of Abdul Latif.
Renesa Islam, class seven students and daughter of Latif’s cousin Zakir Hossain, said that she does not know about Abdul Latif, her father may know him.
Same type of answers received from the other locals of the area, especially from the youths.
Nurul Amin Chowdhury, president of ‘Abdul Latif Smriti Sangsad’, said after staging the programme on Monday night, they received warm welcome from the locals and will arrange it regularly on next years.
Kamaluddin, Secretary of the organization, said also planning to arrange a fair at this place to make life and achievements of familiar to the native people.
Bidhan Sarkar, Sushanta Ghosh, journalists, cultural activists, said a museum on language and literature should be established here to create awareness and study on life and achievements of Abdul Latif.
