Jhenaidah mango vendors incur huge loss every year

 Mango vendors in Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenaidah have been facing troubles as they are not in a position to preserve the rotten fruit in the locality. It has been incurring heavy loss for the vendors.
Moreover, the consumers can not consume the ripen mangoes as a portion of the mangoes are damaged due to preservation lacking. But the vendors could be ensured more profit and the consumers could avail the mango for a long time, the vendors said.
Locals said, Kotnadpur market is the largest market for mango sell and purchasing in Jhenaidah district where at least 70 vendors are involved with purchasing the fruit from the producers directly. The eleven kilometre mango market is visible from the entrance point towards Kotchandpur from Kaliganj.
Mango vendor Joynal Abedin of Sylhet said, he has been purchasing mango from Kotchandpur market for past five years. LOcal varieties of Lengra, Himsagar, Khirshabhog, Gopalbhog, Amrapaly, Bombai and some other varieties of the fruit is produced in Kochandur and surrounding upazila gardens.
At least 50 trucks of mango are loaded from the market a day during the season that starts in early may every year. The vendors of different parts of the country rush here for cheaper rate of the fruit, Joynal Abedin said.
Another vendor Tofazzel Hossain of Comilla said, he has been purchasing the mango from local market as the mango was almost better in quality and good shape and size which attract the customers.
Tofazzel said, the producers from Chuadanga, Meherpur, Jibananagar, Alamdanga, Damurhuda, Jhenaidah, Sailkupa, Magura and some other areas rush the market for selling the same.
Purchasers from Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, Comilla, Barishal are purchasing the fruit from the producers directly. But the vendors face troubles when they find no way sending the items by truck or other transports instantly. As the result the purchased fruits are dumped on the road side openly helps damaging or rotting the same faster, he said.
The vendors said, they along with representatives of different juice producing companies purchasing the Lengra and Himsagar variety of mango at Taka 1,600 to 1,700 each maund, Amrapaly and some similar varieties at Taka 1,400 to 1,500.
Mango vendors association president Sanjoy Biswas and general secretary in Kotchandpur Abdul Latif said, the market sits from 7.00 in the morning continues till dusk everyday.
They business leaders said, the mango brought at Kotchandpur market is completely organic where no chemical substances are used. The vendors purchase the mango from the producers directly and no muscleman is benefitted from the business there, they informed.
They said, the vendors could be benefitted more id any preservation store was constructed at Kotchandpur that ensure preservation of mango during the season as well as other crops in respective seasons, the business community leaders said.
Upazila agriculture officer of Kotchandpur ………………… when contacted admitted the fact and said, not only the mango producers, but also the farmers in the area incur heavy loss for want of preservation centre in the area.
