Before establishing herself as an actress in showbiz Kushum Shikder was a singer. For this reason, despite having an identity as an actress Kushum again proved herself as a singer while performing in an award giving ceremony after 15 years. Recently she performed in Symphony-Channel i Music Award.
By this performance after a break of 15 years Kushum rendered a song on stage. She rendered a raga based Nazrul song titled Na mititey asha bhangilo khela. Everybody appreciated her performance in the programme.
While talking in this regard Kushum told this correspondent, “Everybody appreciated my song and they encouraged me to continue music.”
It may be mentioned that Kushum Shikder last performed music in 2000. Later she engaged herself with acting. As a result, she could not concentrate to music. She has a solo album titled Tumi Aj Koto Durey and two mixed albums – Adol Bodol and Jiboner Joto Chawa – in the markets. Solo album was released under the banner of Soundtek in 2000.
After born and brought up in Dhaka Kushum learned Nazrul Sangeet at Nazrul Academy. She got training on classical music from Ustad Phul Mohammad and Nazrul Sangeet from Ustad Morshed, Kushum said.
