The potato traders of Kurigram district formed a human chain at Kathalbari bazar under Kurigram Sadar upazila on Sunday in protest against price hike of preservation of sacks in cold store by owners. Later they also submitted a memorandum to Kurigram Deputy Commissioner. President of District Potato Traders Association (DPTA) Abul Kashem Dulal and joint conveyer of Rangpur Divisional Committee Shah Alam Mostafa spoke among others.
They narrated that earlier the price of per sack containing 65 kgs was at Tk 260. Cold Store Association and Rangpur Divisional Association fixed up Tk 260 for 50kgs deducting 15 kgs in per sack in this year. Earlier the price of potato in per kg was at Tk 4 but they fixed up at Tk 5.20 in per kg in this year.
