Though over 40 days elapsed since the murder of the city’s Mission International College teacher Krishna Kaberi, police could not unearth the mystery yet.
Krishna’s husband and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) officer Shitangshu Shekhar and two daughters Sraboni Biswas Shruti (14) and Atri Biswas (8) have been staying with their relative for a month, sources said.
In the incident, all the three of them were injured and admitted to a city hospital but they did not return to their residence at Mohammadpur after released from the hospital, they said.
After 10 days of the murder, all the furniture and necessary things were shifted to a house of a relative for security reason.
Police are trying to arrest those involved in the murder, said Azizul Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohammadpur Police Station.
The members of law enforcing agencies could not arrest stock market businessman Zahirul, the main accused in the murder case, said the police official.
Abdur Rahim, caretaker of the residence, said on Thursday that none of the family members returned after the murder of Krishna Kaberi on March 30.
He also said, the owner of the building resides in the US. The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) requested him not to rent out the flat again for the sake of investigation.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and Additional Deputy Commissioner (DB) Mohammad Masud said, “The investigation of the murder case is going on. We are near the unearthing of the mystery. Now if it is possible to arrest the killer, our investigation will end.”
He, however said that the pace of investigation was slow because of the political situation.
ADC Masud said, “After the murder of Kaberi, her husband Shitangshu was not staying in the flat of the five-story building on 3/12 Iqbal Road in Mohammadpur. He was staying with a relative. From there he was helping the police in the investigation.”
After the murder of Krishna Kaberi on March 30, her brother-in-law Shudhangshu Shekhar Biswas filed a case with the Mohammadpur thana.
On the day of the incident, Zahirul went to the house with flowers, cake, juice and fruits to celebrate the birthday of Shitangshu. At one stage of cutting the cake, he drew out the hammer brought with him and hit Shitangshu. Sensing the danger, Kaberi brought the dao, a household appliance, from the kitchen. The man snatched the dao from her and hit her on the head with it. She fell on the ground. Then he beat her daughter Shruti and Atri. At one stage he set fire to the flat and left.
