Korea-BD joint effort to open new era in rice research

Scientists of Korea and Bangladesh have been working jointly under a project to open up a new era of cooperation by developing modern farm machinery and research capacity along with cold tolerant rice varieties.
 BRRI has already been provided with a number of facilities for that including a rice-breeding laboratory (Molecular laboratory) and cold-tolerant rice screening protocols, manual carrier, harvesting machines, rice mill, direct seeding and crop cutting machines.
Detailed information of the programme will be disclosed in a press conference organized by a KOICA assisted project organized at the training room of the Farm Machinery and Postharvest Technology Division (FMPHT) of BRRI on Wednesday last.
For the completion of the project, a modern research workshop building has been built at the FMPHT Division premises of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur. Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has provided the necessary support in this regard.
BRRI Director (Admin) Dr Shahjahan Kabir will be the chief guest in a meeting organised on the occasion while Korean expert Dr Hwang, Hung-goo, a professor of the Kyungpook National University will be the guest of honour.
Principal Scientific Officer of Farm Machinery and Postharvest Technology Division of BRRI Dr Md Durrul Huda will brief the reporters. Senior BRRI scientists and officials along with other experts will attend the meeting. They will take part in the thread bear discussion about the research, development and maintenance of farm machinery.
Scientists and concerned officers of BRRI had already taken training in Korea about the related technologies.
Organizers said that it is the demand of time to use modern machinery in agriculture. To fulfill that demand, scientists of Korea and Bangladesh have been working together.
