A good number of children in the char areas of Sadar and Raipura Upazilla of the district deprived of right to compulsory primary education due to their poverty, ignorance, shortage of school and lack of communication facilities
Several Union Parishad(UP) Chairmen and members of those areas said among the children aged between 6 to 10years. 4000 to 5000 are school going while 1000 are treated as dropouts in 14 char unions of the upazilas.
They said, due to geo-graphical reasons, most of the people of these areas are unemployed and uneducated and maintaining unplanned family life.
So, the parents can not afford their children to school due to financial and livelihood problems.
On the other hand, there are no schools in 50 percent villages of the upazillas. However, most of the children of these remote char areas are engaged in catching fishes or working at crops fields.
They hoped if the education department continues the programmes of food for education in the school of these char villages then the guardians must send their children to school.
