Staff Reporter :
BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will go abroad for better treatment if she is freed on bail as her condition is not improving, said her sister Selima Islam after visiting her on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters after meeting her sister at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Selima Islam said, the fingers of Khaleda Zia’s hands and legs are getting bent and she is suffering from acute pains. “She can neither stand on foot nor can sit without support. Under the circumstances, she needs advanced treatment.”
Selima Islam said, the doctors are regularly visiting the BNP Chairperson, but there is no sign of improvement of her physical condition. “She can’t move, and raise her hand to eat.”
Five family members, including Selima, her younger brother Shamim Eskandar, his wife Kaniz Fatema and son Ovik Eskandar, went to meet Khaleda around 3:30pm and had over an hour long talks, said BNP Chairperson’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar.
Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018. She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year, though her party claims both cases are politically motivated.
The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since April 1 this year.
