UNB, Dhaka :
Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Kazi Reazul Hoque ton Wednesday urged the police to submit the chargesheet in the case filed over Sylhet college student Khadija Akter Nargis immediately to ensure prompt punishment to her attacker.
“We want the police complete the investigation immediately, and submit the chargesheet accurately within one or two weeks,” he told reporters after visiting Khadija at Square Hospital in the capital around 11am.
He also talked to doctors and hospital authorities requesting them to take special care of the college girl.
On Monday Khadija, 23, a student of Sylhet Govt Women’s College, was stabbed allegedly by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit BCL leader Badrul Alam on her way home from college following the refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued Khadiza and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing. Khadiza was taken to Sylhet
Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Dhaka around 12.10 am on Tuesday as her condition deteriorated.
Victim’s uncle Abdul Quddus filed an attempt to murder case against Badrul with Sylhet Shahporan Police Station on Tuesday. Coming out of the Hospital, Kazi Reazul Hoque also told reporters if the prompt trial of Khadiza is not ensured, other such people will get encouraged to repeat the heinous act.
“I hope the assurance of the Home Minister of putting the perpetrator on trial and ensuring proper punishment to him will come into a reality. There’s no scope to take too much time in completing the trial of this case,” he added. Mentioning that ‘justice delayed is justice denied’, he said the justice must be ensured immediately so that people can keep their faith in law enforcement agencies.
