Zia Trust case: Khaleda to appear to court today

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia will appear to a Dhaka court today (Thursday) in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.
The BNP Chief’s counsel Sanaullah Mia confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday morning. He said: “the BNP Chief will come to the court at about 11:30 am.”
Khaleda Zia is scheduled to place her statemen
in self-defence to Dhaka’s Third Special Judge’s Court in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case, while she is be cross-examined at the same court in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.  
In 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against six people, including Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman, for allegedly misusing Tk 2.1 crore of the Zia Orphanage Trust.
In 2011, the ACC filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case accusing the BNP Chief and three others of misappropriating Tk 3.15 crore from the Zia Charitable Trust.
