Khaleda thanks Modi

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday night thanked the Narendra Modi government for its initiative to pass the historic bill in both houses of Indian parliament-Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha-to operationalise the 1974 Land Boundary Agreement.
“Keeping for nearly 40 years pending, Indian parliament has passed the Land Boundary Agreement. I thank the Modi-government for it. Modi has said he took the move to cerate a friendly relation with the people of Bangladesh,” she said.
The BNP chief came up with the assertion while exchanging views with the newly elected members of Dhaka Taxes Bar Association (DTBA).
“The Indian Prime Minister also said he wants to build friendly ties with the people of Bangladesh not with any particular party. BNP also wants it,” Khaleda further said.
She also said, Modi is a man of different character who does not like flatterers.
Taking a dig at the Awami League government, the BNP chief said it had only favoured the ex-Congress-led Indian government, but failed to bring anything from it for the country, let alone the LBA and Teesta water sharing deals.
“You (AL govt) have only given (to Congress govt), but failed to bring anything,” she added.
A day after India’s upper house Rajya Sabha passed it, the Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Indian parliament, on Thursday passed the much-sought constitutional amendment bill regarding the land boundary agreement with Bangladesh.
