Khairul Alam Sabuj is one of the legendary actors of the country. After many years, he acted in the title role of a drama titled ‘Dadur Jadu.’ Faria Hossain wrote story of the drama, while Arif Khan gave direction of it. Sabuj informed that he has already completed shooting of his part in the drama. Sabuj’s four sons and daughters and grandchildren will be seen in the drama.
While talking about acting in the drama, Khairul Alam Sabuj said, “I have liked story of the drama. It is very emotional story based drama. I played the role of grandfather in the drama. Basically, many days my children and grandchildren didn’t come to see me. So, I acted like a sick man. For this reason, they come to see me. Story of the drama continues. Faria has written story of the drama cordially. Sometimes I became emotional while reading script of the drama. I pray for Faria. My co-actors in this drama acted really well. Basically it was a family story based drama, so while working together we became like a family. I hope after airing the drama, viewers will enjoy it. I believe as a playwright, Faria Hossain will get appreciation for writing this drama, which will go on air soon in a TV channel.”
Meanwhile, Khairul Alam Sabuj is going work in Saiful Islam Mannu’s upcoming movie. When he was 12 years old, Sabuj attached with acting in Barishal. During that time, he acted in theatre plays in neighbourhood areas. ‘Surjomukhi’ was his acted first theatre play. Then he went to Karachi, Pakistan for study. There he was attached with music and acting in the beginning of his honour’s degree.
On PTV, he was first seen to render song in 1970. On March 18, 1971, Sabuj returned to Dhaka. Then he took admission at University of Dhaka (DU) in English Literature. He along with Ma Hamid built up DUSCU Drama section, Natyachokro. Ma Hamid was its president and Sabuj was its general secretary. Basically DU’s this Natyachokro made a revolution in the field of theatre in the country. From Natyachokro, Selim Al Deen and Al Mansur written two dramas were staged. Then Sabuj joined theatre group, Theatre. Under the banner of this group, he acted for 22 years.
With Theatre, Sabuj acted in plays Payer Awaj Pawa Jai, Ekhane Ekhon, Othello, Senapoti, among others. Under this theatre group, he gave direction of his translated drama titled Antigone. It was a translation of French drama. On BTV, Sabuj first acted in late Atiqul Haque Chowdhury directed drama titled Joler Ronge Lekha. Dhakai Thaki was his acted first TV serial. But in the silver screen, this noted actor was seen a little bit. He first acted in movie Ujan, which was made from Pune Film Institute. Then he also acted in a short film titled Chharpotro. Sabuj was also seen to act in movies Nondito Noroke, directed by Belal Ahmed, and Mollabarir Bou, directed by Salauddin Lavlu.
According to Sabuj, in the beginning of his acting career, his mind didn’t pursue to act in the silver screen. For this reason, his acted number of movies is few. He is passing happy life along with his wife Shirin Alam and only daughter Protiti Purna, said the actor.
