‘Keep moms happy’

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday urged all to work together to ensure safety and happiness for every mother and asked all to say no to all types of repression towards them.
“Let’s together say no to all the tortures towards mothers. Let’s work together to make their
lives more beautiful, more protected; and safer,” she said adding that mothers still face various types of agonies in many cases.
Shirin Sharmin also urged all to perform their duty towards mothers removing all the problems they face and bring back their smile so that every mother can find a dignified position in the society, which is a must for building a decent society.
The Speaker was speaking as chief guest at an award giving ceremony – Azad Products Ratnagarva Maa Award-2013 – at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam, Information Secretary Mortoza Ahmed, eminent journalist Golam Sarwar, former president of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) Selima Ahmed, and Chairman and Managing Director of Azad Products Abul Kalam Azad also spoke at the function.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin said mothers, even at this age of globalization and free flow of information, still die at the time of childbirth in many countries of the world.
“But we’ve achieved tremendous success in reducing maternal mortality rate though it still remains a big challenge for many countries in the world,” she said urging all to work for the safety of mothers.
Sharing his personal experience, Shahriar Alam said mothers are the best ‘crisis managers’ and ‘shock absorber’ and they have the capability to take right and rapid decision in any crisis moment. “I think each mother is a crisis manager.”
He expressed displeasure over some deviations from morality and hoped that everybody would show due respect towards mothers.
Appreciating the initiative taken by the Azad Products in 2003, the state minister expressed his hope that such initiative to honor mothers would spread in every part of the country.
Noted actress Rokeya Prachi said she would be waiting for a day when there will be no old home in Bangladesh and mothers will not turn burden for their children.
Later, the guests handed over awards to 36 ‘Ratnagarva Maas’ in two categories.
Noted singers Dinat Jahan Munni and Kona presented a number of songs on mothers.
Azad Products Ratnagarva Maa award is being given to those mothers every year who have given birth to at least 3 children and the children are graduates and are well established.
