Hamid, Quang for boosting trade ties

President Abdul Hamid and his visiting Vietnamese counterpart Tran Dai Quangon Mondayput emphasis on taking joint initiatives by the entrepreneurs of the two countries to expedite the bilateral trade and commerce.
They came up with the remarks at a pre-dinner courtesy call at Bangabhaban in the evening.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, ministers, MPs and senior officials attended the dinner hosted by President Abdul Hamid.
During the meeting, Abdul Hamid said the trade-investment prospects of Bangladesh and Vietnam are bright, underscoring the importance of taking initiatives to utilise possibilities in Bangladesh.
The President hoped that the visit of Vietnamese businessmen and investors as the entourage of Tran Dai Quang will expedite the investment process, said President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin said after the meeting.
Mentioning that the existing bilateral relations between the two countries are very excellent, he hoped that the ties will expand further
in the days to come. About the signing of three memorandums of understanding with Vietnam on cooperation in the fields of fish and livestock, mechanised engineering and cultural exchange during the ongoing visit of Tran Dai Quang, Abdul Hamid said these will help strengthen the bilateral relations.
About the forced displacement of Myanmar people, who took shelter here, he said it is a big challenge for Bangladesh. He urged his Vietnamese counterpart to play an effective role in ensuring a safe, dignified and sustainable return of Rohingyas to their homeland. The President said Bangladesh is eager to be the ‘Sectoral Dialogue Partner’ of Asean and sought Vietnam’s support for this. Tran Dai Quang said Vietnam always gives priority to the trade and investment relations with Bangladesh andemphasised on building more communication through air and waterways between the two countries to accelerate trade and commerce in both the countries.
He lauded the role of Bangladesh over the Rohingya issue, as well as its socioeconomic development.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State for Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, secretaries concerned and Vietnamese envoy to Bangladesh were also present at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese First Lady Nguyen Thi Hien also made a courtesy call on Rashida Khanam, wife of President Abdul Hamid,where Abdul Hamid’s family members were present.
