The government has made Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Karnaphuli upazila in Chittagong Bijen Banarjee as OSD (officer on special duty) for `filing case against a local Awami League leader who foiled Victory Day celebration program for not getting an invitation letter’.
The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Sunday. The UNO has been made OSD as senior assistant secretary of public administration ministry. He has to leave his current working place within December 26. Otherwise, he will be stand released. However, the ministry in the gazette notification said that the UNO was made OSD ‘for public interest’.
On December 16, the Karnaphuli upazila administration organized the daylong event at AJ Chowdhury Degree College under Shikolbaha union in the upazila.
Local Awami League leader and chairman of the union Jahangir Alam along with his men armed with sticks swooped on the program and foiled it, as they were not invited.
Later, assistant of the UNO office Dipu Chakma filed a case against the attackers.
