JS greets PM, Saima for getting int’l recognitions

Parliament on Tuesday congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter, Saima Wazed Hossain, for getting separate international recognitions for their outstanding contributions in education and health sectors.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the beginning of the day’s sitting conveyed the information to
the Members of Parliament. “Let us congratulate both for receiving these two international recognitions,” she said.
The MPs, who were present in the House, greeted the Speaker’s announcement by thumping their desks.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday received recognition from the UNESCO for her “tireless efforts to promote female education in Bangladesh.”
UNESCO director general Irina Bokova presented a memento, titled, ‘Peace Tree’, to the Prime Minister in recognition of her outstanding contribution to girls’ and women education.
Saima Wazed Hossain, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has won an award of the World Health Organization (WHO) for her contributions to the fight against neuro-development disorder and autism.
Earlier, in June, WHO appointed Saima Hossain, a school psychologist in the United States, as an expert adviser on mental health.
Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism in Bangladesh, Saima has played a critical role in creating South Asian Autism Network (SAAN).
She also led campaigns for the passage of a resolution on autism in the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland this year.
