JS body for steps to stop illegal human trafficking

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment yesterday recommended the ministry to take steps to stop illegal human trafficking and cheating of migrant workers abroad.
The recommendation was made at the 7th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban in the city with its Chairman Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun presiding, said an official release.
Committee Members M Israfil Alam, Mahmud Us Sadam Chowdhury and M Ayen Uddin attended the meeting. The committee recommended the ministry to take necessary measures to stop despotism of middlemen in sending manpower to foreign countries.
It also suggested taking steps to increase manpower exports.
The meeting recommended sending a letter to the finance ministry on behalf of the standing committee to make expatriate welfare bank a scheduled public bank. Expatriate welfare and overseas employment secretary and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
