Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Journée internationale de la
francophonie or The International Day of the Francophonie began at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the city’s Dhanmondi area on March 14 with the
performance of French musician Vincent Meyer.
Like every year, Alliance Française de Dhaka is organising
a number of events like
francophonie short films festival, literary discussion on Matin Brun by Franck Pavloff, translation
competition, petanque
competition, guided tour in French at Jatiyo Sangshad Bhaban, francophonie quiz competition, round, etc. Other events are
as well to be organised by the embassies of countries belonging to francophonie (Canada, Egypt, France, Morocco, Qatar, Switzerland, Vietnam). Francophonie refers to an
international organisation of French-speaking countries and governments, and also to the
community of French speaking people. Journée internationale
de la francophonie or
The International Day of the Francophonie is observed around the world every year on March 20 to celebrate the love for French language, the cultural diversity and harmony it beckons, as well
to foster the values of peace,
democracy and respect
for human rights.
This day could be compared to the Ekushey February and its
celebrations of the Bangla
language on 21st February. n
