Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has arrested a member of the banned militant organisation Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Shyamoli area of the capital on Monday (August 22). The arrested person is identified as Hafizur Rahman alias Sakal.
According to the CTTC, the arrested person Hafizur Rahman is an active member of JMB. A meeting was held at Shyamoli Ring Road area to collect funds for the organisation and to plan subversive activities to implement the ideals of the organisation and to distribute a book titled Jamaatul Mujahideen, Principles and Code of Conduct among the new members.
It is known that a chapati (big knife) and three books on principles and conduct of JMB
were recovered from him during the drive.
He was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Investigation Department of CTTC in a raid in Shyamoli Ring Road area of Adabar Police Station of the capital.
Arrested Hafizur used to collect money through robbery from rich businessmen and people of different religions in different parts of the country including Dhaka and spend it for the release of jailed JMB members and to speed up the activities of the organization. There are several cases against him in different parts of the country including Dhaka.
