Two arrested with 6 crude bombs
Kotwali police on Friday morning arrested two miscreants along with two crude bombs at Kharki in Jessore town. The arrested are Belal and Mamun of Kharki in Jessore town.
Enamul Haque, officer in -charge, Kotwali police station told that tipped off the police arrsted the two and seized the crude bombs on their statements.The two are accused in several cases, said the OC. A case was lodged with Kotwali police station in this regard.
BGB seizes Indian goods
Border Guard Bangladesh men on early Saturday seized smuggled Indian goods including wine, saree, three-pieces, tea, chocolate, tire and medicine raiding several areas at Gatipara, Nabharan, Gadadharpur and Amrakhali areas . Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Bangladesh told that acting on a tip off the BGB personnel raided the areas and seized the goods chasing smugglers. The goods worth over Tk 30 lakh were deposited to Benapole customs house, Chaugachha police station and Narcotics control department at Moheshpur in Jessore and Jhenidah districts.
Cases were filed with the police station in his connections. But none was arrested in his connection.
Teenaged girl found dead
Kotwali police recovered the body of Jharna Khatun, 12, daughter of M Julhas of Baliadanga village under Jessore Sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The body was recovered from the area in hanging condition, said Enamul Haque, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station. ‘But it was not clear whether she was killed or committed suicide’, he added. The body was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.
NBR chairman emphasised on economic growth
National Board of Revenue chairman Golam Hossain on Thursday has emphasised the necessity of economic growth for achieving of target to be middle -income country by 2021. ‘We need to raise revenue income to meet the target’, he said. ‘Our yearly revenue income is Tk 1.5 lakh crore now, I needs to turn into three lakh crore by next five years’, he added. The NBR chairman was speaking at views exchange meeting with customs officials, Benapole port authority, Jessore Chamber of Commerce and Industries, BGB, police and Benapole customs clearing and forwarding agents association, Thursday noon.
The meeting was addressed among others by Firoj Shah Alam, member, NBR, Mojor Liakat Hossain, deputy commanding officer, BGB, Jessore, Nitai Chandra Sen, director, Benapole authority, Mizanur Rahman Khan , president, Jessore Chamber of Commerce and Industries Ltd, Mofizur Rahman Sazon, president, Benapole C&F Agents Association and Emdadul Haque Lata, general secretary.
