Japanese nat’l held with 11kg gold at HSIA

A Customs team recovered 11kg of gold from a Japanese citizen at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday noon.
The arrested man was identified as Kengo Shibata, Customs Official said.
Mohammad Sydul Islam, Assistant Commissioner of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID), said “Acting on a tip-off, they arrested Kengo when he was crossing the green channel around 12:40pm. During the primary interrogation,
he [Kengo] refused that he was carrying the gold bars. But, the officials found 11 gold bars after scanning his body.”
A total of 11 gold bars, each weighing 1kg, was seized from Kengo Shibata who arrived in Dhaka by a Regent Airways flight from Singapore on Saturday, the Customs Official said.
“The estimated price of the gold is Tk 5.5 crore, he said.
A case was filed with the Airport Police Station in is connection.
