A technical glitch has interrupted production at the Jamuna Fertiliser Company in Jamalpur. The factory’s Managing Director Ikhlas Uddin said urea production at the factory had been suspended since Saturday evening.
He said it would take two or three days for the factory to resume operations. The factory’s ammonia plant caught fire due to a technical glitch, Ikhlas told bdnews24.com.
Factory staff put out the flames quickly, he said. The plant is being repaired. Urea fertiliser cannot be produced without ammonia. The factory produces 1,700 metric tonnes of urea daily. Urea is widely used in fertilisers as a convenient source of nitrogen.
