Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj :
Kishoreganj people remembered their beloved leader Ivy Rahman on Tuesday – on the day of August 24 in 2004 Ivy Rahman, the then Awami League’s women’s affairs secretary, women’s leader and freedom fighter, died after getting seriously injured in a grenade attack on an Awami League anti-terror rally on the (Bangabandhu Avenues) in the capital on August 21, 2004. She died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka after battling death for three days.
Although Ivy Rahman was the national level leader of the Awami League, she used to keep in touch with the grassroots leaders and activists of Kishoreganj district.
She was a trusted name among the leaders and workers in Bhairab of Kishoreganj. This favorite leader of all of them was unanimously known as ‘Apa’ irrespective of party affiliation. Although the field level workers called Apa, she kept them in maternal affection.
Leaders and activists of Kishoreganj have been deprived of her motherly love for 18 years. They still can’t forget the compassionate leader Ivy Rahman for a moment. The doors of the house of Ivy Rahman, a native of Bhairab, were open day and night. Today, on the 17th death anniversary of this beloved leader, they are remembering her with reverence and looking for a way out in the hope of bringing the August 21 attack and its planners to justice.
