Noted jurist Barrister Mainul Hosein participating at a talk show of Independent television on Monday evening along with Justice Syed Amir-ul Islam and Advocate Shahdeen Malik said the government move was totally unacceptable since its motive was establishing one-party BAKSAL rule. The talk show was moderated by journalist Khaled Mohiuddin. Barrister Mainul said, “First this government and the Parliament have to establish their constitutional and democratic legitimacy before they can claim to change the Constitution. This constitutional change is not essential now unless the government wants to go ahead for forming one-party BAKSAL rule under which peoples’ vote is not important to elect either the Parliament or the government.”
He said, “So the need is urgent for the government to completing the process of burying democracy for establishing autocracy of BAKSAL type where people’s election is unnecessary and farcical. There will be no press freedom and the judiciary must cease to have independence. Supreme Court judges shall be tried and punished by an unelected Parliament with no opposition is insulting.”
