Irregularities by brokers are rampant in Sirajganj passport office , it is alleged
Complaints were galore that some dishonest employers and officer of Sirajganj passport office took bribe of Tk 1000 per applicant.
About 200 people come for passports from different parts of the district every day and some dishonest staff force the applicant to pay bribe on different excuses. Sources said that the applicants observed all rules submitting bank draft, attested copy and various papers required, but they can not get passport.
But if they pay bribe passports are issued easily. Jewel Ahmed, son of Md, Sabur Ali of Potajiya union under Shazadpur upazila, said he paid taka three thousand four hundred fifty as fees through bank draft for normal passport and gave bribe of Taka 1000 to the office staff and then his application was received easily. Some applicants told the reporter that they are being deprived of service because of some dishonest staff of the passport office.
Applicants who pay bribe and submit bank draft for three thousand four hundred fifty taka they get easily the passport in due time.
Many applicants demand the higher authorities to take steps on an urgent basis against these dishonest office staff.
Arup Ratan Chaky, Assistant Director (AD) of the passport office when asked about the irregularities, denied everything.
