Int’l Day of UN Peacekeepers observed in districts

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was observed here on Wednesday in a befitting manner. In observance of the occasion, Bangladesh Navy organised a rally at city’s Shibbari Intersection around 9.30am. Area commander of 55 Infantry Division of Joshore Cantonment Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hassan addressed the rally as chief guest while regional commander of Khulna Naval Zone Commodore M Mozzammel Haque delivered the welcome speech. Earlier, the chief guest inaugurated the rally through releasing balloons, festoons and pigeons. A one minute silence was observed in honou of slain UN peacekeepers. Among others, high officials of army, navy, police, UN organizations in Bangladesh, local government officials, students of different school and colleges of combined forces and Bangladesh National Cadet Core attended the programme. The International Day of UN Peacekeepers is being observed on May 29 every 6year across the world, reports BSS.
BSS from Rangpur adds: The International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers-2019 was observed through various programmes in a befitting manner in the divisional city today.
This year’s slogan of the day was ‘Protecting Civilians, Protecting Peace.’
Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding of 66 Infantry Division Major General Md. Nazrul Islam, ndu, afwc, psc, inaugurated the observance on Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College ground in the morning.
Under management of Rangpur Area Headquarters of Bangladesh Army, a huge rally with a colourful band party was brought out on the surrounding areas from Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College premises.
Members of Bangladeshi peacekeepers, officials and members of Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, BGB, Police, BNCC, Bangladesh Ansar, students of different educational institutions and journalists participated in the rally.
Before bringing out of the rally, a one-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the martyred members of peacekeepers for their supreme sacrifice while maintaining the world peace and seeking divine blessings for their departed souls.
Major General Md. Nazrul Islam as the chief guest addressed a pre-rally brief discussion paying due honour to the UN peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives in establishing global peace.
He also mentioned the outstanding contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to upholding image of the country at international arena and attaining credibility through highest standard of professionalism, devotion and bravery.
