Int’l confce on tourism kicks off at DU

A three-day 1st international conference on “Tourism Beyond 2050: Future of Mass Tourism” organized by Dhaka University kicked off on Tuesday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium of the university.
Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference hosted by the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of the university.
Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi University, India Prof S P Bansal, DU Pro-VC (academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmad, DU Pro-VC (administration) Prof M Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Prof M Kamal Uddin and Business Studies Faculty Dean Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam also joined the inaugural function.
Arefin Siddique underscored the need for further expansion of the country’s tourism industry to bring the opportunity for the people of home and aboard to visit the country’s natural beauties and archaeological heritages.
He said the tourism sector has many challenges which should be met to boost up the potential industry that can contribute to the economy a lot to attain the government’s target of making Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021.
Delegates from different countries including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Indonesia are participating in the the international event.
