Income tax fair ends with record turnout

The weeklong income tax fair has ended with a record turnout of Tk.529 crores. The weeklong income tax fair has ended here with a record turnout of 0.3 million visitors, of which around 32,584 taxpayers submitted their returns.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has collected Tk 529.70 crore in taxes in a week at the fair this year, up 2.46 percent compare to the last year’s fair. Around 18,349 taxpayers had submitted their returns last year at the fair, according to NBR.
On the final day of the fair on Tuesday alone, the NBR Chittagong collected tax worth Tk 48.59 crore 79 thousand and 978 as well as 8,012 persons submitted their returns.
The NBR served the visitors until around midnight at GEC convention center in the city.
Apart from getting help to submit returns, the visitors also received other services relating to the tax. On the last day of the fair, hundreds of them were seen standing in long queues until 10 pm. Many of them rushed to the fair venue after office hours as the organisers had announced to keep the fair open ‘until the last person is served’.
For the first time this year, the taxpayers received Tax ID Card and stickers, and there were long queues to collect those documents at the fair.
