The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy arrived in the capital last morning for four days in Bangladesh as part of its journey around the globe.
Fans in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram will get the opportunity to see the trophy in their respective cities before it leaves Bangladesh on October 21.
The golden World Cup trophy arrived here around 8.30 am from Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, and later the trophy was directly taken to Bangladesh Cricket Board premise of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium for display.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, ICC’s showpiece 50-over event, will be held in England and Wales from May 30 to July 14, 2019.
The trophy began its journey from the International Cricket Council headquarters in Dubai on August 27, 2018 and is travelling over 60 cities of 21 countries across five continents.
It is the most extensive trophy tour ever and will allow cricket fans around the world to catch a glimpse of the coveted prize.
The trophy will travel not only to the participating countries, but also for the first time will go beyond the traditional cricketing nations and connect with fans in 11 other countries where cricket is gaining popularity. Bangladesh is the trophy’s sixth stopover after visiting Oman, the USA, the West Indies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
After Bangladesh, the trophy will tour Nepal, India, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Nigeria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany before reaching England and Wales on February 19, 2019.
