Humaira Akther Antara earned Bangladesh its first medal, bronze, in the 13th South Asian Games when she finished third in the women’s individual kata event in karate at Satdobato Sports Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal on Monday. Pakistan and Nepal grabbed the gold and silver medals respectively.
After winning the medal, an elated Humaira told “I’m having mixed feeling because it’s good to earn Bangladesh the first medal but gutted not to win the highest medal. My performance was not up to the mark. I had the confidence but it is matter of frustration that I could not win the gold.My main event is kumite which will be held tomorrow (Tuesday). I’ll give my best to win more than just bronze.”
Humaira passed HSC exam this year from Willes Little Flower School and College., will compete in the women’s 61kg kumite event today.
Later, one of country’s top karate players, Mohammad Hasan Khan failed to perform up to the expectation as he also won bronze in the men’s individual kata event on Monday morning.
Mohammad Hasan Khan had won gold medal in the 2010 SA Games in Dhaka, but this time his effort was not good enough to match those of karatekas from Nepal and Pakistan.
