Failing to bear the torture inflicted on her reportedly by her husband, a housewife tried to commit suicide by setting her on fire at Selamati village in Sreenagar upazila on Friday.
The victim, Jesmin Akhter, wife of Sirajul Islam, suffered 60 percent burns on her body and she was sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital, said her brother Mohammad Jewel.
He said Sirajul used to torture Jesmin inhumanely which led to arbitration for several times.
She set her ablaze on Friday after failing to bear the torture, Jewel said.
Officer-in-charge of Sreenagar Police Station Yunus Ali said they did not receive any complaint to this end.
