GCC polls: Ban on plying of vehicles from tomorrow

As Gazipur City Corporation polls are scheduled to open on June 26, local administration has issued ban on movement of vehicles in the city corporation areas from June 25 midnight to June 26 midnight.
Gazipur deputy commissioner (DC) who is also the returning officer (RO) of the city polls has issued the order, according to a press release of the district administration.
As per restriction on all types of vehicular movement including launch, engine boat, speedboat, baby taxi, CNG, taxicabs, microbuses, jeeps, pickup vans, buses, trucks, tempo, easy-bikes will remain off the road. However the movement of motor bikes will remain suspended from June 24 (Sunday) to June 27 (Wednesday), the order said.
However, poll observer, journalist on election duty, officers and employees related to running election, members of law-enforcing agencies,
election commission officials, rival candidates’ election agents and some will be allowed to move on authorization issued by the returning officer’s office.
Moreover, ambulance, fire service, people engaged in gas and electricity service, post-telecommunication and emergency services will be open to movement. The ban will nor apply to the national highway police .
Gazipur deputy commissioner Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir said that the restriction on transport of vehicles during the city corporation election has been imposed as per 1983 Motor Vehicle Ordinance.
