Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasin instructed the directors of public hospitals and persons concerned to be more careful in handling and maintaining the medical equipments in public hospitals.
“Patients might die due to faulty equipment in hospitals. So, everybody should be more careful and conscious in maintaining equipments from now on. They (hospital staff) should keep in mind that equipments in hospitals are not merely machines, survival and death of patients depend on them. Remaining out of order of hospital equipments tantamount to negligence to duties,” he said.
The minister said this on Wednesday while speaking as the chairperson at a meeting on “Public hospital management” at the Conference Room of the ministry in the city.
State Minister for Health Zahid Malek, health secretary Syed Manjurul Islam and other senior officers of the ministry concerned and health directorate and directors of different public hospitals attended the meeting, among others.
At the meeting, former foreign secretary and chief executive of Sonar Bangla Foundation Touhid Hossain conducted power point presentation of the proposed dialysis machine that would enable low-cost dialysis services to the patients at public hospitals.
Suchinta Foundation presented, at the meeting, the proposal in regard to formulation of resolutions in principle for maintaining hospital equipments.
Mohammad Nasim said, “The government has been operating hospitals by involving people in their activities. For the purpose, the local members of the parliament (MPs) have been entrusted with responsibilities as presidents of hospital management committees. They should be more responsible in maintaining the hospitals in their constituencies.”
The minister said the government has been working in line with attaining ability of the existing 10-bed or 20-bed hospitals in the remote areas of the country to extend necessary healthcare services to the people.
Mohammad Nasim informed his audience that the government has also been examining thoroughly whether assistance of non-government organisations can be taken on experimental basis in operating a few such hospitals.
