UNB, Comilla:
The sale of prefabricated houses, a unique but traditional business in Homan upazila, is still popular in the district and elsewhere.
A good number of people have been engaged with this business for more than 100 years.
Seven carpenters can make such a house with tin and wood in 15 days and sell it at a price ranging from Tk 2.5 lakh to four lakh. The prices of such prefabricated houses, however, fluctuate depending on the prices of tin and wood.
Homna Upazila Parishad chairman advocate M Azizur Rahman Mollah said making such houses is a tradition of this upazila. “Hundreds of people earn their livelihoods through supplying materials, making and selling readymade houses,” he added.
He also said the upazila administration will stand beside the prefabricated house traders if they want any assistance to keep the age-old tradition alive.
